Product personalization is increasingly extending beyond the clothing, jewellery and cosmetics industries. The trend is also growing rapidly in the food sector where consumers expect to be able to create products tailored to their individual preferences. This poses a demanding challenge for manufacturers, but also represents a major opportunity to build loyalty and stand out in the market. FM Logistic’s partnership with Lindt demonstrates how meticulously designed logistics processes can support a manufacturer in meeting the growing expectations of consumers.
Lindt, one of the world’s leading chocolate manufacturers, has entrusted FM Logistic with the comprehensive management of its warehousing and logistics processes in Poland. The range of services includes temperature-controlled storage, co-packing and supporting the e-commerce channel. This means the operator handles everything from routine warehousing operations to the intricate and complex preparation of customised parcels.
Advanced Customisation
At Lindt’s online store, customers have the option to buy ready-made chocolate sets as well as to create their own mix-and-match boxes. A wide range of variations – with different types of packaging, additions and decorative elements – requires flexibility and excellent process organisation on the part of the operator.
FM Logistic manages operations for Lindt at its Będzin logistics centre, which includes a dedicated e-commerce zone set apart from the main warehouse both in terms of infrastructure and IT systems. This allows orders to be processed much like in a retail shop, ensuring both speed and accuracy of service. Customers can customise their orders on many levels: from choosing their favourite flavours and selecting the packaging to adding personal messages printed directly on boxes or decorative elements. With custom greeting cards or decorative ribbons, each package takes on the feel of an elegant gift.
Customised products are perceived as more valuable, both by the gift-giver and the recipient. Customers of Lindt’s online store can choose from 35 types of packaging, tailored to special occasions or designed for customisation. Each customer enjoys a unique shopping experience, which in turn fosters stronger loyalty and positive feedback for the brand, says Anna Grochowska, Lindt’s Head of D2C.
Given the delicate nature of chocolate products, the delivery stage plays a key role in e-commerce purchases. To ensure the highest quality even during the summer months, FM Logistic uses special cooling inserts that maintain a stable temperature and prevent moisture penetration until the parcel is delivered. With these special protective solutions, the number of complaints related to thermal and mechanical damage has been significantly reduced.
Quality Assurance Coupled with Sustainability
Due to the nature of Lindt’s products, proper storage conditions are of crucial importance. The warehouse in Będzin includes zones that ensure controlled temperature and humidity. As preparation takes place at the level of individual items, it’s equally important to properly protect the e-commerce area against dust and dirt and to introduce strict hygiene standards. To guarantee product safety and quality, all processes are carried out in line with HACCP procedures.
The Będzin facility also meets the highest quality and sustainability standards. It is LEED Gold certified, confirming compliance with stringent environmental requirements and high energy efficiency. The photovoltaic installation on its roof covers a significant part of the energy demand during periods of intense cooling, which is particularly important in summer when electricity consumption peaks. As a result, not only does the logistics centre guarantee Lindt safe and stable operations, but also delivers measurable business and environmental benefits.
One of the criteria in selecting a partner has been the alignment of operations with Lindt’s sustainability policy. Our Będzin facility provides not only stable storage conditions, but also tangible energy and environmental savings, emphasises Dariusz Rurka, Senior Business Development Director at FM Logistic Central Europe.
Co-Packing for Greater Efficiency
As part of the contract, FM Logistic is also responsible for co-packing Lindt products. The co-packing area has been equipped with state-of-the-art automatic filling and wrapping systems that improve process efficiency. This allows the operator to efficiently prepare items such as Advent calendars, festive gift sets and mixed-flavour assortments made by compiling chocolates from bulk packs. The services also include location-specific labelling and packing onto display stands, enabling a flexible response to seasonal market demands. The operator has the necessary human resources and technological facilities, enabling Lindt to handle a growing volume of orders without additional investment, while operational flexibility makes it possible to respond smoothly to seasonal sales peaks, such as holiday periods or promotional campaigns.
The collaboration between FM Logistic and Lindt shows that logistics can become an integral part of the consumer experience. Beyond ensuring reliable and secure processes, the operator also supports the brand in creating added value, from maintaining storage quality and efficient co-packing to advanced e-commerce customisation. Integrating logistics operations under one roof has optimised costs, while the modern technologies applied in the processes have increased the precision and speed of order fulfilment. Customers receive their parcels more quickly and in perfect condition, further reinforcing trust in the Lindt brand.“
